Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Geekbench Score Revealed: How Much Better Is It Compared to Its Predecessors and Competitors?

Qualcomm has confirmed that their 8 series flagship chipset, named Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, will launch this October. We expect to see smartphones with this chipset on the Chinese market by late December this year. Globally and in the Indian market, the chipset will be released early next year in flagship series smartphones.

The Geekbench scores of this chipset have been revealed even before its official release, and the scores indicate that it is a very powerful chipset. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be 25-30% more expensive than the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Geekbench Score of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

The Geekbench scores shown here are not from a final production version of the chip. They are scores driven by a codenamed “Manufacturer Model”.  So far, the chipset has scored 2884 in single-core for single-threaded tasks and 8840 in multi-core for multi-threaded tasks.

Qualcomm will gradually use new architecture in their flagship series chipsets, and we will see the first experiment of this in the 8 Gen 4. The custom Oryon CPU used in the “Snapdragon X-series” processors for PCs will be seen in the 8 Gen 4. Additionally, the standard ARM core has been updated to an 81-architecture transformation.

The Geekbench score shows that it is operated on Android 15, featuring an 8-core CPU up to 4.09 GHz. The new chipset not only has an architectural change but also a GPU upgrade, from Adreno 750 to Adreno 830. The CPU architecture consists of 2 performance cores clocked up to 4.09 GHz and 6 efficiency cores clocked up to 2.78 GHz. It is speculated that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be manufactured using TSMC’s latest N3P 3nm process, which will make the smartphone more battery efficient.

Compared to Predecessors and Competitors

Comparing the Geekbench scores to powerful chipsets like the A17 Pro, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and Dimensity 9300+, the 8 Gen 4 chip scores 10-15% higher in both single-core and multi-core benchmarks. When compared to Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro’s A18 Pro, the 8 Gen 4 is approximately 10% behind in single-core scores but around 8% ahead in multi-core scores, easily surpassing the A18 Pro.

[Note: The benchmark scores for the A18 Pro are a single-core score of 3200 and a multi-core score of 8200, and these benchmarks are rumored, not official.]

  • Apple A17 Pro :- We used the iPhone 15 Pro Max for this benchmark, which has a single-core score of 2972 and a multi-core score of 7438. Compared to the 8 Gen 4, the A17 Pro scores ~3% higher in single-core performance but is ~16% behind in multi-core performance.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 :- We used the Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra for this benchmark. Its single-core score is 2334 and its multi-core score is 7371. Compared to the 8 Gen 4, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scores ~19% behind in single-core performance and 16.6% behind in multi-core performance.
  • MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ :- We used the Xiaomi K70 Ultra for this benchmark. Its single-core score is 2343 and its multi-core score is 7719. Compared to the 8 Gen 4, the Dimensity 9300+ scores ~18.8% behind in single-core performance and 12.6% behind in multi-core performance.

Since the Geekbench scores for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 were tested with 12GB of RAM, the scores might seem a bit lower. It’s hoped that the scores will improve once the chipset is officially released and better optimized. Leaker Digital Chat Station claims that mass-produced retail units of the chipset will offer even better performance. Earlier rumors suggested that single-core scores could reach 2,845 points and multi-core scores could exceed 10,628 points, which is slightly higher than the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scores.
